Latest update, July 25, 2024:
Design Development is complete and Construction Documentation has begun!
- Design Development took a few more months to finalize to ensure the priority safety features were fully compliant with the requirements of the two government agencies with jurisdiction over the park.
- The Volume team submitted a draft plan for the park’s wayfinding and donor signage in June. The plan’s review was completed on June 17th, and the revised version of the plan is expected by the end of August 2024 (not required to start the construction documentation).
- In June, OCII Executive Director Thor Kaslofsky announced that OCII will expedite the development of East Cut Sports & Dog Park by pausing the Transbay Block 3 Park project. This decision frees up resources and allows The Crossing to remain open.
- To support this excellent news, The East Cut CBD is committed to meeting its $3 million fundraising goal by the end of October. These funds are required by the City to issue the bond sale and secure the $45+ million needed for construction and move forward with permitting, contracts advertising and bidding, and construction.
- With $1.65 million currently in hand, our board of directors committed to backfill $1 million, contingent upon raising $350,000 to ensure our financial positions are strong enough to allocate $1 million in reserves.
- Kilroy Realty has already committed $140,000, leaving us $210,000 away from our goal and the crucial construction fundraising milestone!
- The East Cut CBD (park operator) and TJPA (park owner) are continuing negotiations on the park operating agreement.
- Thanks to OCII, the Zig zag moderne hot-dog stand is safe and stored at an off-site.
April 3, 2024:
- The Design Development packet is 100% complete as of March 22, 2024. The packet was sent for final reviews and comments to all three partner agencies (TJPA, OCII, and Caltrans).
- The East Cut CBD and TJPA began negotiations on the park operating agreement.
- The Volume team continues to work on the signage program, no work for review yet.
- The East Cut CBD continues to work on finding a home for the art deco hot-dog stand.
February 7, 2024:
- The park is halfway through Design Development and on track to move to Construction Documentation in Q2.
- The East Cut CBD and CMG (landscape architecture firm) are now in contract with Volume Inc., a wayfinding signage consultant, to develop the comprehensive signage plan for the park, including donor recognition signage.

December 10, 2021:
The East Cut Community Benefit District launches its largest fundraising initiative to date, to save and build East Cut Sports & Dog Park, the most important park space in the neighborhood! For the next two years, The East Cut CBD will work to raise funds needed to operate and maintain East Cut Sports & Dog Park between the years 2025 and 2030. Those funds must be raised and set aside, in order for the City of San Francisco and public sector partners to advance the park development and deliver it by Q3 2025.
The first of two significant milestones is the fundraising of $1.2 million by the end of March 2022. The East Cut CBD already approved releasing $470,000 in reserve funds toward the goal, giving a substantial headstart to our effort.
