As we transition into the new year, The East Community Benefit District would like to introduce you to one of its main supporters in the neighborhood: Jamel Bouzidi, owner of Fayala –mediterranean restaurant and catering group– on Howard St. between Beale and Folsom Streets.

Since June 2018, Jamel has been offering free lunch 5 days a week at Fayala, to The East Cut Services Team! That is a level of support we cannot be thankful enough for and a tremendous gift to our team that is hard at work every day of the year!

Jamel has been a San Francisco resident for over 20 years and moved to Rincon Hill about 10 years ago when he realized what potential the area had. Today he is both a business owner and a resident of the district, where he lives with his family. Jamel has made his business decisions based on his awareness of planning and redevelopment projects in San Francisco, he is an advocate for small business owners in the neighborhood and has regularly offered is input on different economic development discussions.

And precisely because he is so invested in this neighborhood, Jamel has been committed to advance quality of life for his family and his community. By allowing our Services Team to have lunch at Fayala, he actively supports the CBD with its public space stewardship missions in the district. For Jamel, that is an investment for his community, and even though he already is assessed a fee every year, knowing where his money is allocated towards is what convinced him to further help The East Cut CBD.

On behalf of The East Cut CBD staff, services team, neighbors, and constituents: Thanks to Jamel and everybody at Fayala for your generosity!

Fayala has been incredibly successful in representing fresh eating in San Francisco and strives to create a positive food experience for each and every customer. When asked two things people should know about Fayala, Jamel says that the high food quality is what kept them successful over the years and that he’s named the restaurant after his great grandmother, to demonstrate their commitment to offer high-quality comforting cuisine.

For 2019, Fayala is working on opening a new location, so stay tuned for their future opening and in the meantime, pay them a visit at 215 Fremont St. (access on Howard St.)!
